The Community Foundation Statement on recent Riots and hatred targeting BAME communities
The Community Foundation strongly condemns the recent surge in violence and terror perpetrated by far-right groups and individuals. These actions have not only caused widespread fear and chaos on our streets for Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic communities, especially people who are visibly Muslim, who are now living in a state of constant fear and insecurity.
Nozmul Hussain, the Chief Executive of Community Foundation said: “The rise of far-right extremism is a deeply troubling trend that strikes at the very heart of our values as a society. These groups, driven by hatred and intolerance, are not only disrupting public order but are also undermining the fundamental principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion that we hold dear. Their actions, often masked under the guise of free speech or national pride, are nothing more than attempts to sow division and incite violence.”
He further added: “Many individuals and families now feel unsafe in their own neighbourhoods, with some too frightened to leave their homes. This is not just an attack on a specific group, but on the fabric of our community as a whole. No one should have to live in fear because of their race, ethnicity, or religious beliefs.”
At the Community Foundation, we stand in solidarity with those affected by this violence. We are committed to working with local authorities, community leaders, and all residents to ensure that our streets are safe for everyone, regardless of their background. We call on all members of our community to reject hatred and violence in all its forms and to come together to build a more inclusive and peaceful society.
Now, more than ever, it is crucial that we support each other and stand united against those who seek to divide us. Together, we can create a future where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected.
