ESOL Volunteer
Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers to join our ESOL programme. As an ESOL Volunteer, you will play a vital role in helping non-native English speakers improve their language skills, thereby enhancing their ability to integrate into the community, pursue educational opportunities, and achieve their personal and professional goals. Volunteers will assist in various capacities, including tutoring, conversation practise, classroom assistance, and administrative support.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide group sessions to help learners improve their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
Engage learners in conversation to help them practise speaking English in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.
Support ESOL instructors during classes by helping students with activities, answering questions, and providing additional explanations.
Assist with administrative tasks such as preparing materials, organising resources, tracking attendance, and maintaining records.
Help learners understand and navigate cultural nuances and everyday situations in the local community.
Participate in and help organise events that promote cultural exchange and community building.
Qualifications:
Proficiency in English is required. Additional languages are a plus but not necessary.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to explain concepts in a clear and simple manner.
Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards learners from diverse backgrounds.
Understanding and respect for cultural diversity.
Previous experience in teaching, tutoring, or mentoring is preferred but not mandatory.
Working Hours:
Classes are delivered every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Volunteers may be required to assist with preparation and follow-up activities outside of class hours.
